Tuesday,

1 to 3 pm:
“Ethnographic Research” – Sandra Bauman, President, Bauman Research &
Consulting
Ethnography has been around since the 1960s, but it is emerging in adapted form as a valuable addition
to more traditional marketing research methodologies. Ethnography
is a qualitative methodology where researchers get out of the focus group
facility and immerse themselves in the lives of their subjects by observing
and interviewing people in the context of their everyday lives: where they work, live, shop and play. This session
will discuss what ethnography is (and isn't), types of ethnographic techniques used and
how this type of research can provide marketers and businesses
with valuable consumer insights in ways that other forms of market research cannot.
3 to 5 pm:
“Weighting Data” - David Dutwin, Vice President, SSRS/Social Science Research Solutions
The session will cover basic theory and practice, including weighting rationales, the attainment
of population counts, and numerous practical examples ranging from the weighting of simple random sample
landline surveys to stratified designs and finally dual frame (landline and cell phone) projects. Roughly
one hour will be dedicated to basic theory, setup and weighting of SRS data, followed by more complex applications.
Refreshments will be served. Please register early. Space is limited.
