Dear NYAAPOR member,
As president of NYAAPOR for the 2019-2020 term, I’m very happy to share some great news about our coming programming and some changes in membership policies. NYAAPOR has surely gotten off to a great start for the 2019-20 year!
Our “Writing Better Questionnaires” session was well attended by young professionals, students, and Insights Association members as well as NYAAPOR’s membership. It was great to see our membership forming new relationships with other professional associations like the Insights Association and networking with young professionals who are looking for mentors and career opportunities.
I’d like to thank everyone that took the time to complete our membership survey. We listened to your feedback and are transforming NYAAPOR to better meet your needs. Some of the changes we’ve made already include:
All Inclusive Membership Option – Over half of survey respondents expressed an interest in a $199 annual membership fee that includes admission to all NYAAPOR evening events and half day workshops for the year. The option will be available as renewals for the coming year go out.
More Polling and Election Coverage – You asked for more events focused on elections and Greg Holyk, Associate Program Chair, has put together a Pre-Primaries Polling panel on November 13. Check it out and register via the NYAAAPOR website. Greg also has a second and a possible third election event in the works for the spring.
Social Listening – Many of you asked for an introduction to “social listening” (monitoring of online social channels for opinion trends and marketing insights). We quickly pulled together an event on this topic for October 29, at the Advertising Research Foundation. Go to nyaapor.org to for the line-up of speakers and topics. The Digital Analytics Association has agreed to cosponsor the event, providing another opportunity for our membership to network with professionals in complementary organizations.
More Free Events - Past NYAAPOR President, Professor Robert Shapiro, has put together a very special free event in conjunction with the annual Roper Center Mitofsky Dinner with a line-up of truly stellar scholars and subject matter experts on the topic of the 2020 Census. The event will be held on the afternoon of November 14, at the NYC Public Library. See our website to register.
Speaking of the Roper Center Dinner, NYAAPOR would like to organize a table for this year’s event. We need 10 people at a cost of $248/per person. Please feel free to include colleagues in the industry outside of NYAAPOR to help us make this happen. Contact Rosemarie Sharpe at email@example.com if you’re interested. For more information on the Roper Center Mitofsky Dinner, go to https://ropercenter.cornell.edu/warren-j-mitofsky-award-ceremony-and-dinner.
Mindy Rhindress, our Student Liaison, is already busy planning this year’s student poster event and has been reaching out to various schools in the tri-state area for submissions. The NYAAPOR Council has approved increasing this year’s total award amount to $1,000 to further increase participation. If you have academic contacts that can be leveraged to increase participation, please contact Mindy directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mary Wang, this year’s Program Chair, has been busy pulling together a full schedule of events for the rest of the year, we invite you to submit any program suggestions you may have.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at all or one of our upcoming events!
