POQ Discussion Club + Happy Hour

Are political pollsters asking the right questions?

As we head into election season, join us for the second edition of NYAAPOR’s POQ Discussion Club + Happy Hour -- a special edition with an appearance from the featured author. Building on the classic "book club" concept, this program enables our members to get together in-person for peer learning, networking, and NYAAPOR community building. We’ll spend some time together discussing the findings and implications of a notable publication from Public Opinion Quarterly (POQ), and then head out for a drink and socializing at a nearby bar.

Our featured POQ article this quarter will be “Democracy’s Denominator: Reassessing Responsiveness with Public Opinion on the National Policy Agenda” by Jason Barabas (Public Opinion Quarterly, 2016, https://doi.org/10.1093/poq/nfv082). We are joined by the author, Jason Barabas, in-person who will present his findings and join the discussion. If you find yourself asking (or, equally likely having to answer) questions about whether political polls are good for democracy and how they could be doing a better job, you won't want to miss this discussion—or the drinks that follow! This is a Cash Bar event. Please be sure to register in advance as space is limited. See you there!
